Sts. Constantine & Helen Church

Fr. Serge and Christopher Bolan emptied out the church on Friday, September 12th at 4:00 pm. All liturgical items, vestments, church records, icons, etc. have been removed and are being housed in a safe location. The only thing, unfortunately, that was not taken out of the church were the icons on the iconostas.

If you have heard any information on the condition of the church, please post here.

John and Sharon Powell, and Hill and Kirk Olson transferred their flags from League City to Austin Thursday morning. We are staying with Shade in her apartment while Hill and Kirk stay with Sharon's uncle.

Word from neighbors is that our houses are safe, lost the fences and maybe some shingles, but that's about it. Hope to know more today.

So relieved to get Father's email. Tried calling several times, but voice mailbox full. Saw picture in Houston Chronicle of flooded cemetery, but no picture of church.

Know that our thoughts and prayers are with everyone.

By the way, a former co-worker at KXAN in Austin heard we were here, and stopped by to do a story.

I am so thankful that we were able to salvage what we could from the church. Just as our Priest leads us through the difficult moments that we face~will face, he is always looking out for us and our spiritual home. One thing that the storm could not take is our faith, and our understanding of "GOD's will"...GOD's will is also that we survive this. Please do not forget that. I regret that by the time the church re-opens, and Galveston is a city again- I will have already left to return to the Balkans. It will be some time before I see the city where I was born, and our church again! I love you all, and our whole church family is in my heart and prayers at every moment!

Love always~
